At Parkway Veterinary Emergency Clinic, our team consists of experienced veterinarians and veterinary professionals dedicated to providing exceptional after-hours emergency vet care to the pet community of Lakeland. Each member has been hand-selected for their role and brings a wealth of experience and skills unique to them. We are proud of each of our veterinary staff members! Rachel Pratt, DVM, MBA, MS (Nutrition), MS (Genetics)
Regional Medical Director
Dr. Rachel Pratt received her undergraduate degree in animal biology and first master’s degree in animal nutrition at the University of Florida. She received an additional master’s degree and advanced to candidacy for her doctorate degree in genetics/proteomics at the University of California-Davis. Dr. Pratt went to veterinary school at Ross University and did her clinical year at North Carolina State University. She then received an MBA in international business summa cum laude from Louisiana State University- Shreveport and started her own nonprofit merging human and animal medicine while helping those less fortunate to receive proper medical care. Her clinical interests include both feline and canine internal medicine and surgery as well as “pocket pet” exotic species such as rodents, rabbits, reptiles, and birds. The only animals she will not see are primates. Dr. Pratt lives with her husband and two children. When she isn’t busy practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Pratt enjoys spending time with her family, participating in triathlons, and traveling around the world.
Dr. Tai Curry
Dr. Curry joined the Parkway family in December of 2018. She attended Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. She had also received a certification in Acupuncture from the Chi Institute in December of 2008. Dr. Curry has enjoyed watching the many advancements of veterinary medicine over the last thirteen years. She is proud to serve and make a difference in our community, providing after-hours veterinary emergency care. Dr. Curry does not leave her love for animals at the end of a workday though. She is is a pet mom to a quarter horse, a donkey, a pony, two miniature horses, and a barn kitty. After all that she is also a lover of all things Harry Potter. As family is an important part of our teams’ lives, Dr. Curry's proudest life accomplishment is the birth of her son Gray.
Dr. Aimee L. Smith
Dr. Smith is a graduate of Tuskegee University's Center for Veterinary Medicine in Alabama. Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Smith was a veterinary technician in her home state of Kentucky for thirteen years. Dr. Smith’s first adventure into veterinary medicine was in a small animal ER in her hometown where she spent four and a half years with that practice before moving to general practice. Dr. Smith has also worked with horses in and outside of veterinary medicine. Her final veterinary technician position led her to exotic animals, which she enjoyed very much. Dr. Smith is dedicated, reliable, trustworthy, and committed to her patients and their care veterinary technician. Dr. Smith also takes pride in constantly learning.
Dr. Erin Rothrock
Danielle came to Lakeland by way of Jacksonville, FL. She has been in the veterinary field since she was eighteen years old. She loves animals and joined the Parkway team in 2014 to learn more about ER Medicine. Danielle loves to travel and scuba dive. She enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and their children. Danielle also has a hamster named Peaches that is very happy to have a veterinary technician for a pet mom.
Ariell is from right here in Polk County, being originally from Lake Wales, FL. She truly loves veterinary emergency care. Ariell’s veterinary interests include exotic medicine, mostly birds, and animal rehabilitation. Ariell has a collection of wonderful pets of her own, having three dogs, three cats, and one parrot. When she’s not being an incredible contribution to our Parkway team, Ariell enjoys reading and painting.
Client Patient Coordinator
Hannah is from our wonderful city of Lakeland, FL. She is one of the friendly voices you hear when you call our clinic. Hannah joined us because she wanted to be a part of a team that loved what they do for animals. Hannah loves animals and her seven-year-old Calico cat, Cali, can attest to that. Hannah hopes to one day become a veterinarian technician. She also loves doing yoga in her free time.

Ashley is from the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York. Ashley joined our team because she wanted to continue gaining experience in emergency medicine. She likes the fast-paced working environment and has a passion for helping others. Ashley has an Associate’s Degree in Office Technologies, A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Health Services Administration. Ashley enjoys spending time with family, her daughter, and her rescued Chihuahua Squeaky.
Jess has been working with animals for over a decade but was really drawn into the field upon moving to Florida from her childhood home in Long Island, New York. Jess graduated Cum Laude from St. Petersburg College Veterinary Technician Program. While in the program, Jess quickly developed a passion for emergency medicine and has been practicing in this area of the field ever since. Jess loves growing as a veterinary technician and hopes to play an active role in manifesting the profession as a whole. Jess currently has one dog, a hound mix named Eragon, who has been her companion since the onset of her journey as a credentialed technician! Jess enjoys studying, hula-hooping, gardening, and hiking. She also gives her time by volunteering in communities in need. Jess is even furthering herself more in the veterinary field as she attends vet school at the University of Florida starting this summer.
Client Patient Coordinator
Kristy is one of the friendly voices you hear when you call our clinic. She is originally from Central Virginia but now calls Winter Haven home. She has over twenty years of experience in the veterinary field. She brings with her knowledge in veterinary customer service management and a broad range of clinical skills. Kristy earned her Bachelor of Science in Business and Marking from Averett University. She began her post-grad career in sales and marketing but quickly learned where her heart truly lies – in veterinary medicine. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, outdoor activities, antiquing, and spending time with her long-time boyfriend, family, and their large menagerie of pets which includes six dogs, one cat, a horse, and several reptiles.
Rissa is an absolute animal lover from Lakeland, FL. Originally joining our team in 2017, Rissa’s goal was to gain better knowledge of veterinary emergency services. Rissa has definitely grown that knowledge and is a dedicated and hard-working member of our team. Rissa is used to working as a team being one of five children. Just like most of our team members, Rissa loves animals outside of work as well, having three dogs, seven cats, and usually fostering any number of rescue pets.
Client Patient Coordinator
Katie joined our clinic because of her love for animals and her joy for helping people. Katie a definite local from our very own Lakeland, FL. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of South Florida. Katie is one of the friendly voices you hear when you call our clinic. When she’s not being one of our helpful hands, Katie molds young minds as a 4th Grade Math and Science teacher. Katie also joins her fellow teammates by having a home full of animal love. She has two dogs, one gecko, one bearded dragon, and one fish. Katie loves the beach and spending time with her family.
Renay is a newer member to our Parkway team. She is excited to grow and learn in her role in our clinic. Renay is originally from Prestonsburg, KY, and enjoys spending time with her fiance and son. Because life is always more fun with pets in your life, Renay has two dogs. A Catahoula named Arrow and an American Bulldog named Lady.
Taryn has brought her general veterinary practice knowledge with her as she helps the emergency pet cases here at Parkway Veterinary Emergency Clinic. Helping animals and working in the veterinary field started early for Taryn when she shadowed veterinarians back when she was in middle school. Taryn looks forward to any new knowledge and experience that she can gain on the job, so she can improve her veterinary technician skills to help the pets in our community. Taryn describes the pets she has as a home as a herd of German Shepherds and working/field Cocker Spaniels. Taryn also enjoys participating in AKC sports with some of the dogs in her herd.
Excited to learn as much as she can about the veterinary field and emergency medicine, Nina was part of our very first assistant apprenticeship program. She loved being a part of an incredible program and enjoys being on the emergency team. Outside of work, having fun at the beach and going for a hike are activities that Nina enjoys. And of course, Nina is an animal lover so her pet family includes tropical fish, a four year old pitbull named Dakota, and a one year old shepherd mix named Charlotte.
Teresa is a local Polk County girl from the great city of Auburndale, Florida. Teresa’s childhood dream was to work in veterinary medicine. That dream came true when Teresa was invited to join the inaugural class for our assistant apprenticeship program. Being a medical assistant prior to joining the veterinary field, Teresa brings that same heart as she cares for the pets in our community that need us. When it comes to free time Teresa loves to swim, walk, and spend time with her kids. Like many of our team members, caring for animals is not just a work thing. Teresa has two dogs, one cat, and one rabbit that call her mom aside from her kids.
Natasha joined our emergency veterinary team as part of our very first assistant apprenticeship program. She has always dreamed of working with animals so this career opportunity to learn and grow with our team was perfect. And she also hopes to one day work with exotic animals. Natasha is from Port Huron, Michigan but now calls Lakeland home. She enjoys any activities that involve being outdoors. Natasha has a wonderful large family which includes animal family members as well. She has three dogs, four cats, and two birds.
Jubilee hopes to one day become a veterinarian, so she has taken the first steps to accomplish this dream. Jubilee was selected to take part in our first class of our assistant apprenticeship program. Jubilee has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida and an Associate’s degree in Art. Fun fact, in an effort to help her fellow classmates in the assistant apprenticeship program, Jubilee created an online study resource for everyone to use. Can you say, team player? Yes! Jubilee likes to volunteer, go horseback riding, and spend time with her family.
Mary has always loved being around animals so being part of a veterinary team was a perfect career path for her. Mary was part of the inaugural class for our assistant apprenticeship program. Mary plans to pursue a career as a veterinary technician too! Animals are definitely part of Mary’s home life as well. She has one dog, three cats, and six rabbits. Mary loves being outdoors jogging with her dog Dixie and keeping her health a priority.
